I have chosen to change the usual colouring and negetivity that rock brings to people and decided to try something new and inovative therefore i had a picture of a famous artist in front of a wall that was slightly pink looking appealing to women as well as men i had also made the font colours vary so it looks exciting and not dull/boring so the reader can get more intrested in the magazine and see that this will relate to the younger generation aswell as the maturing due to the new look people will see that there are new ways of portraying rock through magazines and everypage could tell a diffrent story with posotive moods to suit the images and storylines.

This is my second character which i will feature in my magazine called Rik's i again used my brother for this photograph as the two characters must be brothers so me using my brother twice will make them look simliar and related, i decided to use all black clothing again but with this character i decided to use weapons and other props to make him look slighty more dangerous and to show that the characters and not alike much , i had this picture taken when he had his chain out and a bandanna tied around his head with make up lines going down his face with no expresions just in a world of his own to appeal to the younger genereation as he has short hair rather then long.

I had drawn on my brother and come up with this character which i will call Trim i used glasses when its not sunny to show how sometimes rock artists may be myseterious and do things normall people dont i had the wig put on him and tied a tie around his head so it would keep it in place and make it look as natural and realistic as possible this picture was taken at night as i wanted to get the right atmosphere when taking the rock photo, I had facial hair drawn on with make up pencil to make him look more ruff and like a typical rock star but i also wanted to make him look as if he wasnt a rock star as i am trying to bring new ways about of litsening and peoples apperances in the rock genre.

This photo shows me applying some make up and clothing to family members to see what looks best with what and how i should put everything together i had decided to try all these different styles to see which ones would appeal to my audience the best and make the most impact.

I tuk this picture at my friends house of a gutiar which he had borrowed from someone and thought as its a rock magazine this may come in handy and i may be able to use this image on my front cover or to fill in a space as its a rock ( electric guitar ) and these are typically used in rock magazines.

This is all the equipment i had used for my music magazine pictures as i had dressed up family members to make them look as if they were rock artists i had to buy a wig , bandanna and used slight make up to make my characters look as realistic as possible i also used a spanner and a fake cigarette.The colours of clothing and wig i have chosen to use is black as it is a typical rock convention as black is seen on most rock artists and clothing. As i wanted to change things slightly i had one character hold a spanner and one have the wig with streaks of purple with the black to make it look slightly different.The make up i used was just a pencil type of make up which was easy to draw on lines and patterns which look realistic to others.

These are all of the pictures i had taken of both characters and i will only be using the pictures i feel go best with my magazine and the ones which i think suit the content/ page the best to appeal to the audience and make my magazine look good.

Ideas of Hooks , Teasers and button flashes ..

My ideas of hooks, teasers and button flashes that I may choose to use for my magazine have to relate to my genre and be bold and eye-catching yet keeping the magazine looking creative organised and eye catching. My target audience for my magazine are age’s 15 -19 and 25 - 39 so I have to make sure that my hooks, teasers and button flashes can relate to both age ranges.

Hook’s
I have come up with a hook which is “DOUBLE PAGE AWARD CEREMONY EXCLUSIVE INSIDE!!” which will be used on my magazine as its in capital letters it emphasizes the importance and hooks contain very limited information therefore this hook will urge the potential buyer to look inside as to what happened in this event and what makes it so exclusive and important they are reviewing. This will influence the consumer to want the magazine and therefore purchase it due curiosity as they will be intrigued. By choosing to use limited information for the hook this will have a bigger effect on the potential buyer as the fewer amounts of words the more the reader wants to know about it which makes the hook becomes effective.

Teasers
I have thought of two teasers that i may use for my magazine these are “the wildest new comer? Inside” and “the future of rock!”. These two teasers don’t give away much information and they persuade and intrigue people to purchase the magazine as they want to know what all the talk is hence why it’s called a teaser. The first teaser which is a question will definitely get the reader drawn in as they would like to know the answer and find out what’s the new hot gossip that is available to read in my magazine. The second teaser on my magazine and will attract people to it as it says the future of rock with immediately applies to everyone who follows the rock faith and listens to rock music and this will therefore make the reader want to know what’s changing or new to their genre of music.

Buttons flashes
these are the two button flashes that i thought would work best with my magazine and i may use:
· FREE VIP tickets for the snakes tour
· Exclusive posters inside
“Free VIP tickets for the snake’s tour” is the first idea that i came up with and thought best suited my magazine. This is a very good button flash as it makes the reader feel as if they got more for their money and also links to music as it is an ticket to watch a tour for a rock artists. I have purposely not written there is free vip tickets for snakes tour ‘inside’, as there is not inside I would actually have a competition where you must win to get the tickets but even so the button flash will still attract customers to buying the magazine.

The second idea i have of a button flash is “Exclusive posters inside” this will attract the younger generation of future rockers that i am trying to target as well as the older mature group as the younger ages will see magazines as being fun and posters will be there bonus which they will stick on their walls or places i will try to even it out with one button flash for one age group and my second button flash appealing to the other age group of rockers.

New Double page spread ideas 2..

This was another double spread i have designed for my feature of an awards ceremony where the nominations of rock bands and solo artists will be displayed this will be intresting as many people would like to know what type of people had won what award.

I choose to do this aswell because theres qwite alot of descriptive writting that could be used as there's so much to talk about when it comes to awards and rock artists this idea is also new and i havent seen anything like it but i thought taking the risk will benefit as when people see that its new the reader will be intrigued as its not what there used to seeing in a rock magazine.

There will be three main images of the biggest award winners and a collumn underneath which will have there names and how many/ which awards they had won this will also have there speeches.

New double page spread ideas..

As i was trying to try something new and inovative and i had an idea of putting a tribute to a legend rocker who has died as a feature on the double page spread and the content would be like his carrer turned into almost a timeline sort of design with pictures and his greatest accomplishments and phrases i decided to change the typical layouts and designs of normal double page spreads as i need my magazine to be seen to bring new ideas and new ways of viewing rock content that have not been used before.

The pictures will be displayed with dates next to them so its easy to understand when the picture was taken and what event it was taken for.There will also be small spaces next to the photos for Quotes and then underneath the photos will be collumns where information on the event and how many people viewed this event and trying to highlight his carrer with the best points available about the rocker.

The masthead will be on the top right of the page to promote the brand and the heading will be placed on the top left hand just so the readers know what the content is that they are reading. I will also put a website link next to the page number at the bottom of the page so as the reader has finished reader and they are happy with the content they will notice the website and check it out this promotes the magazine.

Double page spread ideas ..

There are many ideas i have on what i should use and put on my double page spread buh there are three main ideas i think that would be the best and would go well with the rock genre is one being a tribute of an legend rocker who has just past away this will give the readers an insight of what kind of person the rocker was and there is plenty to write about such as if it was a tribute to a rock legend who has jus past away i could have a timeline sort of montage where pictures would run through out the page and as the timeline goes there will be information on what he achieved and all sorts of his acomplishments and bad times during his years this will keep readers entertained and this is something new that i think would work very well there could also be a phrase used by this rocker that will relate to everyone i thouhg that this was a unique idea i had come up with as the idea almost has an layout to the content just because its about the legends life cylce/ time line i may need to design a new double page spread for this idea as the time line would go through out both sides and have information everywhere but look organised and easy to read.

My second idea that i had which i thought would be an intresting feature to have on a double page spread is an Interview with a exclusive well known famous band that everyone likes and on the double page spread it could say first ever interview to empathasise the content and also have an exclusive side on the page where the band has lyrics to a few of there latest singles followed by the magazines logo and website which will promote the brand and if people are happy they will go onto the website aswell.This would be good as inteviews can fit any layout on a double page spread and i think that the interview will go very well with the layouts i have designed for my double page spreads as its an interview i will have easily readable fonts but i will test the colour conventions and make it unsuall so it will appeal to also the younger generation of rock fans out there the ages of 15 - 19 and 25 - 39 year olds.

My third idea which i had thought would be a great feature to be placed on a double page spread is a upcomming new rock artist or the results from an award ceremony which had just past this will both go well as people would want to know about who this new rock star is and what he will bring to the genre and what kind of style that he uses whereas the results from a rock star ceremony would be just as great as everyone would want to know which artists had come first and what rock artists where nominated for which categories the idea of an upcomming rock star would be easy to layout on a double page spread on the 1st one i had deisgned as it will be straight forward and not need anything fancy whereas an award ceremony will be something flashy and i may have to design a new double page spread which will be able to incoporate the syles and information of the award ceremony and still be clear and organised.

This is my mood board and this is going to help me as i have put all my ideas and things that i think are realted to rock so i can incorporate these into my magazine cover,contents page and double page spreads i took everything i thought i needed to inspire myself to make an amazing rock magazine cover which has the qualities of a rock genre magazine.

Colour scheme ideas ..

I was thinking of using dark and light colours for the masthead so it stands out buh i had to also take into account this is a rock magazine and colours such as baby blue and pinks are neva usually used so i wanted to use colours like dark red dark blue nd black as the red nd the blue would stand out with a black outline to make it more eyecatching.I was also thinking that i cud keep the masthead one colour like kerrang does buh NME's masthead i think is rather eye catching and does draw in the reader.

I either want to do my double page spread or my contents page a diffrent colour to my masthead and change it slightly as usually you see the same colours running through the whole magazine but i want to do something else so i would wither have one or the other consisting of blues and yellows and greys colours that work but are not usually seen in rock magazines to show there are diffrent ways and new ways to show rock i think this will also appeal to the younger generation into rock as they may see it as bland and to violent but with the diffrent colours they may get intrested into rock at a younger age.

The colour scheme i would proberly be using for the headings and anchors is mainly the same colours as the masthead as it will keep the same conventions running through - out the magazine and not look like a messy magazine with diffrent bits and colours thrown in together this will help the layout be easily readable and so they can note that the only magazine that gives that information is the one they are reading.

I am trying to test the typical rock genre colour conventions and try something new and inovative but i am also trying to keep the magazine recognizable and seen for a rock magazine not mistaken for an hip-pop one so i will be still incorporating the darker and well known colours used in rock magazines.

Font ideas..

I was searching on the internet for possible fonts i could use for my magazines headlines and masthead i came across a website which has fonts that have usually been used for rock type writing as my top two choices of mastheads are SKRINGG and HRM i had the fonts displayed with that name to see which ones look the best and i have found my top 4:

The font above is striking as it grabbed my attention straight away its dark and looks to me like it was a rock style font i thought this would be a good font type to use as the writting flows almost like a tattoo which many rock artists have i also have not seen this type of font on other magazines so i thought it would help as im trying to be inovative and find new ideas to bring forward.

When i had come to this font my second choice i like the way the letters were not exactlly straight and they were slightly rigid around the edges not perfect jus as rock is always bending the rules and never straight forward they like to smoke drink party be free.This font i thought that most rockers could be familiar with as they will know it is a rock magazine as kerrang is slightly done the same.

This is the third font ive choosen and its rigid like the one before which i like and this is also very readable and its one colour simple but effective as i thought was a good way of representing my rock magazine this also has qualities of both kerrang and NME magazine as NME is bold and simple where as kerrang is like glass been smashed due to the loud bass of rock music this font has big bold letters like NME but its also slightly rigid and smashed looking refrence to kerrang i thought if this is not the mashead i have choosen i may use it for other titles such as contents or headings.

This font i like the most out of all of them as its black but has a hint of white running through it making it not all dark and this font being slightly unusuall will be eye catching and this type of font style also has the same kind of style to Kerrangs but this masthead had more lines going through it its almost as if someone had splashed paint on it showing a sign of freedom and saying do what ever you want it has many connotations and denotations such as it could be representing something cracked due to the loudness and bass of the rock music.

Possible Mastheads..

I was brainstorming a few ideas od mastheads for my magazine and the main four mastheads that i had thought suited my type of genre which is rock and i liked the most are listed below:

1. SKRINGG
2. HRM
3. NIGHT SHAKERS
4. BIND

these all seem to have the characteristics to be a rock magazine masthead as Kerrang is a very well known and popular magazine company and there masthead is the sound when you hit the guitar so i incorporated there name and also used a sound type masthead then i came up with SKRINGG and to empathize the sound i had two letter G's this sound is almost rebelious and like nails on a chalk board and also a high pitched guitar and as Kerrang was such a big hit i thought my masthead being SKRINGG would help.

The second idea i had was also incorporated from another magazine as NME had simple letters meaning New musical express this name was simple but effective as it was easy to remember and the bold letters made it noticable this was also a small masthead giving there more room for other features on there front page so i had come up with the mastehead HRM which stands for Hardcore Rock Music which is simple to remeber and the letters would be shaped the same way bold and big as this will be eyecatching and as they have great success with there masthead being simplistic looking but effective i would like mines to do the same.

My third choice of masthead was Night shakers this i had come up with myself and had no ideas from other magazines mastheads unlike my other 2 ideas i thought night shakers would be a good rock magazine mast head as people usually like to play rock loud at night as your not really supposed to and it disturbs people thas why i used Night shakers as it comes off as they are shaking the grounds at night when they should be sleeping there being careless and free jus like how people are in the rock faith.

My fourth choice of a masthead was BIND this masthead i wasnt to sure about as it almost doesnt seem to have the rock charateristics but then i thought i should do some inovative , something new so i used it as BIND its almost bringing the reader and rock genre closer hench the word BIND it could appeal to some people in the rock audience as they will be intrested in what BIND has to offer them that will be diffrent and whats so binding abouh the magazine contents and features.

These are my top four masthead ideas as they all seem to have what it takes to be a rock magazine masthead and they havent been done before so its a new i may not use these but i was thinking that my top to choices i will be using as they have been incorporated with me thinking about my two magazines i was analyising.

Front cover flat plan 2..

This front cover flat plan i have drawn thinking about how the masthead HRM would look on a magazine and it works well, i choose to use majority of the page with a image of a rock artist who has a hat on with a cigarette and sunglasses on when he is inside this is usually seen with rock artist to have these characteristics.

I would have 3 anchors on the top right going down and then a massive heading on the main picture and a freebee on the left hand side with the barcode and price/ issue on the bottom right hand side so they see the price after they see whats available to them in the magazine this will make the reader feel as if the price is worth the content.This magazine front cover will be spaced out and not filled with to much information on it so its easy to read and this will refelect the inside of the magazine as the content inside will also be easy to understand and read.

SKRINGG draw flat plan..

This design i have drawn trying to keep in mind the front covers of other rock magazines as they have pictures at a healthy size and i have decided to have a picture of a band and i drew the way i thought they would look in the centre of the magazine were you can see it clearly.I have choosen to use cirlce and star shaped for buttons as they will get the readers eye.

The image on the cover will also be a medium shot so you can see the bands body language/ facial expressions and clothing to get an insight of how there lifestyle is and what type of people they are making the reader more comfortable if they can relate to the band.
Theres a small collumn on the left hand side for anchors and other features to grab the attention of the reader and drew them into buying the magazine. There will also be freebies on the bottom page in the star shaped designed which will make the reader feel as if he/she has got alot for there moneys worth.

I had wrote the masthead SKRINGG to see how it would work on a magazine cover and tried to copy the type of fonts i am using for the cover and it seems to have gone well with the page and works i also went with the term of simplisity as i am trying to keep all my content displayed nice and organised with enough space on the page so the reader can understand and navigate quickly.

Double page spread flat plans 2..

This type of layout i have designed above is a more typical looking layout and is easy to navigate its straight forward the informations on the right hand side while the image is on the left hand side of the page i dont want the spine of the double page spread to hide or take any words from the information so i have spaced it out and have the picture on one side and the spine could act like a divider but as the content is linked there will be a phrase or quote in big bold lettering going through the middle of the page and over the sign just conecting the two pages together.

As all the information will be on one side of the page this will look like its alot and not just small chunks so i want there to be an insert on that page which makes it seem like theres less to read otherwise they wont read the whole thing,The lines going down on the right hand side are collumns which will seperate the information one making it easier and creating an illusion that theres less content.On the top right hand side i will have a heading of some sort which relates to the content bellow this layout seems typical and i would keep the colours similar if not the exact same as the masthead as i want to keep the conventions flowing through out the magazine.

double page spread flat plan 1..

This double page spread i designed when i was trying to create a fresh new kind of design so first i wanted to put a montage of photos that i have put on the bottom right hand side of the page as this could work as like a story and makes the information seem like less so more people are willing to read it.Having a montage will also help readers picture what the content is saying as the images will be relevant to the content.The image i want to go more then half the double page spread but have space at the bottom this creates importance for the image and the content surrounding it shows that theres relevance to the image and content.

The lines going down are acting as columns which the information will be in and there layed out so it doesnt seem like to much writting and seems abit fun, The box on the big image will be a Quote or some sort of phrase that the band uses so the reader could have a slight insight just looking at the image.The box on the top right hand side will have a Heading about what the content says or have a saying or even say exclusive as this will make the reader think hes got good information for his money.

The colours i would want to use on this double page spread would be something diffrent like yellows and blues and greys they will work togther good and be something diffrent making the page more colourful giving the audience a diffrent side of rock music.

Contents page flat plan 2..

The contents page above i had tried to create a new diffrent type of contents page that i havent really seen before and then i could compare it with my other flat plan of the contents page layout i had choosen to put the words contents down the left side and have the masthead on the top right near the word contents so its almost saying the whole thing together and so it reminds you which magazines contents this is.

I also had put a picture nearly in the centre of the page but its importance isnt so significant but the image is going to be bigger then all the others and it has its own little text box in which it will have the page number and a hook so the reader gets drawn into that piece of content.

On the top left hand corner there will be the page number and a website so when they look for the page they will spot that there is a website there also promoting the magazine and in the middle of the right hand side and the bottom box is where the small images and pages numbers will be displayed this layout has a few diffrent ideas but it is simple and clear to navigate which will be good for the readers as they will get where they want qwick and easy.

The contents layout above i designed to the following ideas i have i thought i needed a contents page that was layed out clearly and was simple and straight forward so i had the main storys image bigger then all the others to represent its inportance to the readers and then its own text box so you can have a little read and get drawn in.

The box on the right side of the page under contents will have the specific page numbers and the pictures of the band or an image relevant to the content on that page this will be easy for the reader to navigate themselves quickly and with less hassel finding what they need on one page.

The magazine logo will be on the left top hand side and will be next to the contents which will be the same colour conventions as the masthead so it flows as like one piece of text, at the bottom right hand side of the page will be the page number and a website promoting the magazine.The contents page above is simplistic but also effective as its clear and has a layout which you can understand making the reader feel more comfortable.

Questionnaries part 1 results..

i had to keep the gender similiar as i want my magazine to appeal to both genders of the rock faith and so i can have an idea of what both genders want and incorporate all the ideas in to my own and make an magazine for every one to enjoy.

I needed to know what age group the people who were taking my questionaire where as i could relate it to my age group as i am trying to reach out to the ages of 11 - 19 with my magazine as i would like the younger generation to get into the rock genre and litsen to it/ read my magazine.

I needed to find which colours people think would go best with my magazines so i asked them which colours they feel go best with rock magazines and the results where that black , red and blue where the highest ranking and this was an open question any colour could have been choosen but these three were the highest ranked so i will be using these colours somehwere in my magazine as it will attract readers.

The question on which rock genre magazines people think is the best was a good question for me as i could see what people thought of them and then have a look at the best rated magazines for the best ideas and for influence on how my magazine will turn out and how well it will do with others.Magazines NME and Kerrang where both the highest rated with the same votes each and i has analyised these two magazines so this is very good as i have an insight on the two magazines and can recreate some features/ methods to my own magazine.

The question above i asked on how much people were willing to pay for an rock magazine so i could know what prices i should price my magazines the results showed that more people where willing to pay 3 - 4 pound rather then 5 - 6 and 1 - 2 also 7 and more which shows cheapest isnt always the best as sometimes people may think the quality is reflectd on the price it has to be a reasonable price not to expensive and not to cheap so it creats a good image about itself.

I had asked this question about the stereotypes that come to mind when thinking of rock magazines and the most common where wild, Loud and Hardcore so i will incorporate these results into my magazine as the audience believe these are the most common stereotypes in a rock magazine.

This question was about which types of font will be used as the information article type font which the content will be in and its clear that the audience who had taken this questionaire had thought Arial and Calibri body was the top rated and best i would agree with this as they are clear to read and would work well with the pictures and headings and colours.
